LETR Victoria Proudly Supports Special Olympics Athletes with Tertiary Scholarships

At the LETR Victoria Scholarship presentation, Carlo Manolitsas, a Special Olympics athlete, stated, “No matter who we are, no matter our challenges, we all have a right and an ability to work. It is our strengths that must be the focus.” Speaking on behalf of his fellow teammates and graduates from Certificate 1 & 2 Courses in Work Place Education run by Victoria University Polytechnic in Melbourne, Carlo continued by saying, “work gives us a purpose and helps us to contribute to our community. We know that with understanding and thinking creatively about supports and adjustments, valuable work can be found for each of us.”

His words underscored how valuable the work is that LETR Victoria is doing. The courses offer young people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to gain valuable workplace awareness and skills in simulated and authentic workplace settings, improving confidence in job seeking, workplace expectations, and personal development. Publix Campaign Continues to Raise Monies in Support of Special Olympics Florida

Each year in January, Publix associates and customers come together to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics. The impact of this support can be seen in the continual improvement and expansion of Special Olympics Florida and the other Special Olympics Programs across the seven-state operating area.

Publix Super Markets’ support of Special Olympics began in 1972 when Publix founder George Jenkins provided the funds to send 60 Special Olympics Florida athletes and their chaperones to compete in the Special Olympics USA Games in Los Angeles. Click here to read more.

2020 Comes with a Revised LETR Website

For the past eight years, the LETR International Executive Council has hosted and managed three websites to publicise and highlight LETR activities around the world.

LETR Website (www.letr.org): This website is the primary communication tool used by the Council to provide information about LETR activities.

LETR Final Leg Website (www.letr-finalleg.org): This website was initially created to manage the registration of participants (torch runners, athletes, and logistics staff) in the bi-annual LETR Final Leg. It was also used to publicise the event and provide an historical record of previous events.

LETR International Conference Website (www.letrconference.org): This website was created to provide conference attendees with relevant information about the upcoming LETR International Conference. It has been supplemented over the past two years by the Conference App.

In mid 2019, Council decided that the LETR website was in need of a facelift and tune-up and that it made good sense to bring all three websites together onto a single platform.

Work is continuing to achieve this goal, with an expectation that it will be complete by the end of February 2020. In the meantime, information contained on the Final Leg and Conference websites are replicated on the main LETR website.
