Latvia's First Law Enforcement Torch Run |
|
|
Latvia’s very first Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics took place on 17 May!
Organised by the Riga Municipal Police, the event was attended by around 40 Special Olympics Latvia athletes and 80 police officers, fire fighters, and border guards from Riga and across Latvia, as well as international colleagues from Lithuania, Estonia, and Ireland. The torch run garnered national media attention with LETR Latvia Coordinator Deins Millers and LETR Europe Coordinator Gary Gordon being interviewed live on the national morning news!
Reflecting on this very special day, Deins Millers noted, “This was [an] amazing experience where everybody – the wonderful Special Olympics athletes, police officers from Latvia and beyond, and the whole community – felt the spirit of Special Olympics and loved every second of it!”

Spotlight on Casey's General Stores |

Throughout the month of June, Casey’s General Stores are accepting donations at their checkout counters for Special Olympics. This year, Casey's has a goal to raise $1 million. All donations will go directly to athletes who participate in Special Olympics Programs throughout the country and will specifically aid their competition fees, equipment, meals, and other related Program costs.

It is a landmark year for both Special Olympics and Casey’s General Stores, as both organizations are celebrating 50th anniversaries this summer. Casey’s has been a long term supporter of the Special Olympics in various ways, but this will be the second year that Casey’s has supported an icon donation campaign. Throughout Region V, Casey’s General Store also supports Special Olympics Programs by providing financial support through Law Enforcement Torch Run® signature fundraisers, including the annual Truck Convoy, a golf tournament, and much more.
